Forest School and Our Explorers

Forest School

We are fortunate to have created our very own forest school area. Children thoroughly enjoy exploring and discovering new experiences within the area, and learning through the natural environment. The children love cooking on the open fire, creating healthy food snacks to try as they develop their taste buds. It’s a great opportunity for the children to develop their fine and gross motor skills, which prepare the children for early writing skills.

Our Explorers

The explorers are lucky to use the forest school as part of their outdoor curriculum. This forest school curriculum is taught by our specialist forest school lead. This aspect of the curriculum is taught as part of their time spent in the Explorer’s classroom. This is a space that the children are given the opportunity to experience for 12 weeks. They learn through the use of natural resources and primarily within the outdoor space. All 7 areas of the Early Years Foundation stage are taught through a natural medium. This supports their curiosity, art of discovery, and problem-solving skills, supports their desire to seek new experiences, and enhances their motivation to explore as part of their keenness to learn. All key components of preparing an eager child to learn, ensuring they are a prepared learner for school.

“…the environment is key to encouraging a child to learn…”

The children are lucky to have a log cabin-style classroom that has been designed to provide the children with a unique learning experience and interesting resources. This experience is unique to their learning, where they spend the other portion of learning in a classroom-based provision and at our beach school provision.
