Meadows Nursery School is situated in Langney, East Sussex and is a 100 place provision. It is a family-run nursery school, that fosters the ‘home from home’ atmosphere.
Helen and Adam Hawes, the owners of the nursery school, franchised it 15 years ago as part of the Meadows Nursery School chain. Since then they have worked hard to enhance the provision, providing a unique learning environment for the children and a welcoming, supportive environment for the parents. It boasts 7 well-designed rooms that stimulate and enrich the children’s learning experiences, through carefully selected natural and open-ended learning resources. One of the rooms is an outdoor classroom where the children wallow in the awe and wonder of the outside environment. In addition, our pre-school children are fortunate to take part in our beach school learning. This exciting, stimulating, and unique curriculum is run on our Eastbourne beach.
Both Helen and Adam have worked in education for over 30 years, Helen as a nursery school manager and Adam as an advanced skills teacher. They both enjoy seeing the achievements that the Meadows children make on a daily basis and how they learn, absorb and wallow in the opportunities the world offers them. Helen and Adam are passionate to move practice forward and in doing so seek the best experiences for the children in their care. They are fortunate to have a wonderful leadership team where Abi Hollands (Lead Manager) and her husband, Nick Hollands (Manager) have the same passion to create a wonderful environment for the children.

The Meadows Team consists of 28 members of staff, all of which give time to support and enhance the children’s learning, offering a high level of care and education. The team is made up of qualified practitioners who seek to learn new methods of teaching and are always keen to try new ideas to inspire the children that they teach. A qualified Special Educational Needs and or disabilities Co-ordinator (SENDCO), two-year-old specialist lead, teaching and learning coordinator, health and safety officer, child protection officer, a speech and language coordinator, beach school and forest school trained teachers, and an advanced skills teacher are all the specialist roles developed at the nursery to enrich the provision we have. Alongside this, all of our staff are fully qualified in paediatric first aid and given a wealth of professional development to ensure they are up-to-date with current practice.
We welcome all children and have a strong curriculum in place to support children with special educational needs and or disabilities. Our SENDCO is passionate about creating a fully inclusive provision and works with staff to support them in their role, strengthening and broadening their knowledge and skills. We are proud to announce that all our staff at the nursery are Makaton trained and are the only nursery in our area to have gained the Makaton friendly award.
The nursery is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All staff will be expected to have an Enhanced DBS check or Enhanced check for Regulated Activity with the Disclosure & Barring Services (previously the Criminal Records Bureau). Any staff employed will have relevant references obtained and understand and follow all of our policies and procedures.
